Secure Loose Materials

There are Minnesota laws in place with regard to securing loose materials on a truck or trailer. Unfortunately, these laws are often overlooked, corners are cut or the safety concern is ignored completely. Two were added to the death toll in March after a trucker failed to secure his hay bales and they came loose. One bale struck a northbound pickup truck, the driver lost control of his vehicle and it veered in to the ditch, catching fire. Click to read the Star Tribune article.

It is vitally important that drivers secure their loads, regardless of what they’re hauling. Anything from hay to seed can potentially become dangerous when it falls off the back of a moving vehicle. As a driver, be extremely cautious of vehicles hauling materials. Even small materials, if not loaded and secured correctly, can cause an accident that may result in injury or death.
