Jeffrey Montpetit Wins Verdict in Negligence and Assault Case
Man with Iron Range ties injured at Minneapolis Restaurant; Jury awards 200X more than settlement offer.
SiebenCarey, Minnesota’s oldest and largest personal injury law firm, recently won a trial court victory for a Twin Cities client with Iron Range ties. A Hennepin County jury awarded plaintiff Jesse Bukal a significant monetary verdict after a five-day trial. After asking for help from restaurant employees and management, Bukal was struck in the head by another restaurant patron on Aug. 11, 2012, and suffered permanent hearing loss in his right ear from the assault.
SiebenCarey attorney Jeffrey Montpetit filed a complaint against the corporation that owns the restaurant and the man who struck Bukal. Bukal, who grew up on the Range, said of his SiebenCarey team, “I believe I had the best representation a person could ask for.”
“The corporation defending the case made a final settlement offer prior to trial,” said Montpetit. “We declined to settle and presented our case in court. The jury heard Mr. Bukal’s truth, agreed with our arguments, and when it’s all said and done, will have made them pay 200 times the corporation’s final settlement offer.”
“Three years ago, I was unsure of what the future would bring,” said Bukal. “Now I can rest easy knowing my medical bills will be taken care of. Jeff is an absolute rock star!”
Montpetit has served SiebenCarey since 1996 and is, today, a partner at the firm. He practices law in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, professional malpractice, civil rights law and police misconduct, auto and truck accidents, product liability, premises liability, property damage, and insurance litigation.
